HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus, a deadly virus that attacks natural defense system or the immune system of the body. If immune system of the body isn’t good then the body finds it difficult to fight the disease. The infection and virus is termed as HIV. Symptoms like fatigue, headache, sore throat, vomiting, nausea, diarrhoea, aching muscles, red non itchy rash, swollen lymph nodes and fever are experienced by the patient suffering from HIV disease.

HIV spreads through pre-seminal fluid, semen, blood, breast milk, rectal and vaginal fluid. Kissing, needles used for body piercing and tattooing, blood transfusion, touching open wounds having vaginal sex, anal sex, oral sex or sharing needles, of and with an HIV infected person could cause HIV. An HIV infected mother could pass on the disease to the baby.

There is no cure for HIV, currently. However with antiretroviral treatment, it is possible to control HIV. With functional cure the disease can be reduced to harmless and undetectable levels permanently, however there are chances of the residual virus remaining in the body. Researchers are continuing to research and hope to find a cure for the disease, soon.

However there is a rare case of Timothy Ray Brown, a Berlin patient, who was diagnosed with HIV in 2006 and ten years later with two bone marrow transplants, chemotherapy and medication, he has become free of HIV. Experts till date are unaware how he became free of the disease. If the mother is HIV positive, medications are given to the infant and tests are conducted when the infant is weeks old.

In a different approach, ART – Antiretroviral therapy doctors have administered medication and therapy when the baby is just 4-5 hours old, after which treatment continues for long. HIV treatment has to start early. Effective treatment can be given with frequent testing and keeping track of the disease. The patient must adhere to treatment advised by the doctor and maintain a healthy lifestyle so that it is possible to live longer. Patients must be willing enough to undergo life-long treatment. It is difficult for doctors to term anyone HIV free till better tests exists to identify the virus in the body.

HIV medications, antiretroviral drugs, antiretroviral therapy, nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors, nucleoside, non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, protease inhibitors, etc may be given to control virus growth, improve working of the immune system, stop or slow down symptoms, cause fewer side effects and improve quality of life. Even if medications are taken the virus could be transmitted to others.

Nicotine boosts dopamine, so when you quit smoking, your dopamine and mood both drop. Adding more fava beans to your diet can help regulate your dopamine levels and prevent your mood from sinking too severely.

Exercise more often. Both vigorous exercise and relaxing exercise can help you quit, so try to work a little of both into your routine.

Vigorous exercise can cause changes in your brain activity, making it easier to relieve tension and fight depression without relying on your next nicotine fix. Don’t make too many simultaneous changes. If you plan on quitting the habit and losing weight through diet and exercise, you should focus on doing one before embarking on the other.

Quitting and dieting both require a great amount of dedication, and if you try to do both at the same time, you can easily overwhelm yourself.
Quit smoking first, then wait one or two months before making any major changes to your diet or exercise routine.

Avoid triggers. Identify the situations that increase your urge to smoke and do what you can to avoid them. When avoidance is impossible, find another way to distract yourself during those trigger situations.

Delay and distract yourself. When the temptation to smoke grows strong and you feel like caving into it, tell yourself that you need to wait another 10 minutes before you light up. Then, immediately distract yourself with another activity.

Longer activities that will take more than 10 minutes to complete tend to work better. By giving your mind something else to fixate on, you can help draw it away from thinking about your craving.
You may need to repeat this practice more than once, but keep at it until the craving goes away completely.

Remind yourself of the risks. Visual reminders of the dangers related to smoking can make your urge to quit even stronger. Find images of mouths with cancerous lesions or diseased lungs and post them above the drawer you usually keep your cigarettes in.

If you haven’t already talked to your doctor about your smoking habit, take the time to do so now. Having your doctor review the potential consequences can be another way to effectively remind yourself of the dangers you face by continuing to smoke.

Think of the benefits. Balance out the negative by reminding yourself of the positive reasons for wanting to quit. Write down your reasons or recite them aloud each day.

Your reasons can be for your own health, for your self-esteem, for the health of your loved ones, or for the sake of your wallet. Regardless of the specifics, you should continually remind yourself of any and all reasons.

On a similar note, speak in positive terms. Giving yourself the occasional pep talk can help you push through. Instead of routinely fixating on negative words like “quit” and “stop,” recite affirmative sayings like, “I can do this.”

Keep track of your progress. Pushing through can become easier when you can look back and see how far you’ve already come. Keep a journal or other record of your progress. Document the therapies you’ve tried and note which have been successful, and note how long you’ve gone in between cigarettes.

… then you’ve experienced firsthand some of the possible symptoms of a panic or anxiety attack. If you are reading this page because a loved one suffers from these symptoms and you are trying to understand or help, it’s hard to appreciate what they go through.

Just try to imagine what it feels like to experience one, if you can.

Here is a typical example:

Standing in a supermarket queue, it’s been a long wait but only one customer to go before you make it to the cashier. Wait, what was that sensation? An unpleasant feeling forms in your throat, your chest feels tighter, now a sudden shortness of breath, and what do you know-your heart skips a beat. “Please, God, not here.”

A quick scan of the territory-is it threatening? Four unfriendly faces queue behind, one person in front. Pins and needles seem to prick you through your left arm, you feel slightly dizzy, and then the explosion of fear as you dread the worst. You are about to have a panic attack.

There is no doubt in your mind now that this is going to be a big one. Okay, focus: Remember what you have been taught, and it is time now to apply the coping techniques. Begin the deep breathing exercise your doctor recommended. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

Think relaxing thoughts, and again, while breathing in, think “Relax,” and then breathe out. But it doesn’t seem to be having any positive effect; in fact, just concentrating on breathing is making you feel self-conscious and more uptight.

Okay, coping technique 2:

Gradual muscle relaxation. Tense both shoulders, hold for 10 seconds, then release. Try it again. No; still no difference. The anxiety is getting worse and the very fact that you are out of coping techniques worsens your panic. If only you were surrounded by your family, or a close friend were beside you so you could feel more confident in dealing with this situation.

Now, the adrenaline is really pumping through your system, your body is tingling with uncomfortable sensations, and now the dreaded feeling of losing complete control engulfs your emotions. No one around you has any idea of the sheer terror you are experiencing. For them, it’s just a regular day and another frustratingly slow queue in the supermarket.

You are out of options. Time for Plan C.

The most basic coping skill of all is “fleeing.” Excuse yourself from the queue; you are slightly embarrassed as it is now that it is your turn to pay. The cashier is looking bewildered as you leave your shopping behind and stroll towards the door. There is no time for excuses-you need to be alone. You leave the supermarket and get into your car to ride it out alone. Could this be the big one? The one you fear will push you over the edge mentally and physically. Ten minutes later the panic subsides.

It’s 10:30 a.m. How are you going to make it through the rest of the day?

How do you jump? You jump by wanting to have a panic attack. You go about your day asking for anxiety and panic attacks to appear.

Your real safety is the fact that a panic attack will never harm you. That is medical fact. You are safe, the sensations are wild but no harm will come to you. Your heart is racing but no harm will come to you. The jump becomes nothing more than a two foot drop! Perfectly safe.

Vertigo is a condition in which a person feels that the world is spinning, rocking or rotating, even while he or she is perfectly still. The sounds transform into vibrations and via the stapes, malleus and incus the three small bones get transmitted through the inner ear. After this the vibrations get transmitted to the cochlea and then to the vestibular nerve, finally, which then carries the signal to the brain.

Vertigo is caused due to inflammation of inner ear or irritation and displacement of stones or crystals in the inner ear. Depending upon whether the cause is central or peripheral, the type of vertigo can be defined. When there is problem within the inner ear, it leads to peripheral vertigo. When there is problem in the spinal cord or brain, the cause is termed as central.
