Alzheimer’s symptom and prevention: Alzheimer has no cure currently. Appropriate medications are helpful in breaking or curbing of acetylcholine, a chemical present in the brain. This chemical plays an important role in learning and memory. Medications help in slowing down of symptoms as well. Both behavioral and cognitive symptoms of the disease can be treated with non drug and drug treatments.

Signs of onset of Alzheimer’s include problems with daily life, communication, judgment, learning and loss of memory. However symptoms can be eased out in some people, by administering medicines.  The brain too can work better for a longer time by taking proper medication.

Treatment is based upon a few things like medical history, overall health, age of the patient, severity of the disease and the best therapy or medicine that will work for the patient and his lifestyle. Exelon, Aricept and Razadyne are the three drugs used in Alzheimer’s treatment. Severe, moderate and mild Alzheimer’s disease can be treated by the FDA approved Aricept medication that comes in the form of a tablet. Mild to moderate Alzheimer’s can be treated with Razadyne capsule or liquid Razadyne.

People suffering from mild to moderate Alzheimers can be treated with Exelon, where the drug is worn as a skin patch. It is also available in liquid and capsule form. Other medications used in treating the disease are Namenda which helps keep chemicals in the brain in check and the Namzaric drug, a mix of Aricept and Namenda used in treating moderate to severe Alzheimer’s.

Effects of the medicines last for half to one year. Certain common side effects like loss of weight, diarrhea, appetite loss, insomnia, vomiting, fatigue and nausea may be experienced on taking the medicines.

New treatments are being researched upon by researchers for improve quality of life of people suffering from Alzheimer’s and for altering the course of the disease.
